Chad Mirkin discusses using DNA to build a three-dimensional structure out of gold, likening the process to building a house. Starting with basic materials such as bricks, wood, siding, stone and shingles, a construction team can build many different types of houses out of the same building blocks.

Major TS Presence A First For 31-Year-Old Event
Washington, DC, USA. The TS-born have been a neglected group at the Capitol Pride celebration for 31 years. Until now: the Transsexual Symposium (TS-Si) will be out and proud at the Capitol Pride Parade on Saturday (June 9th) and hosts a booth at the Street Festival on Sunday (June 10th).
![]() "The GLBT community must understand that people born transsexual are terroized and die, here in America and around the world, often as substitutes for Gays, Lesbians, and Bisexuals when haters can't find their primary targets."
Sharon Gaughan, TS-Si's Vice President and Executive Director, emphasized the "T" in GLBT, saying "The term transgender has become too broad and misapplied. The refusal to distinguish between gender, sex, and presentation hinders people born transsexual as they transition."
Things are "tough enough", Thompson added. "Why mix up transsexuals with crossdressers or transvestites living part-time fantasy lives? All that does is confuse doctors, lawmakers, caregivers, the police, and the courts. Those officials must deal with transsexuals who are real people with real life or death issues."
Gaughan added that the needs of transsexuals in transition are primarily non-political and cited TS-Si's "Practical Policies For Transsexualism", a non-partisan agenda for change.
The Transsexual Symposium, Inc. (TS-Si) is a non-profit organization formed to help transsexuals transition into society and provide a long-needed correction to preconceptions that unfairly bias medical care, social development, public policy, and service delivery.
Sharon Gaughan, Co-founder, Vice President, and Executive Director of the Transsexual Symposium. She also serves as the Managing Editor of TS-Si publications and websites, including the TS Policy Review.
