Washington, DC, USA. The US election for president and congress is on, with a hard sprint toward the November finish line.
Everything is under tight control, with campaign appearances scheduled for friendly audiences at a considerable distance from the general population. We can expect a flashy — but largely superficial — discussion of the issues.
Somewhere in the frenzied activity that is the American political season lay all sorts of US political and cultural factions working on getting what they want out of the parties and their candidates. We have a short and nonpolitical list of our own preferred measures, repeated numerous times here at TS-Si.org; we will discuss them further at a later date.
In the meantime, we discu

Washington, DC, USA. "In a time to come, people born HBS shall shake the conscience of our nation. During the Pride season, let us take joy in who we are and embrace the responsibilities imposed on us by that knowledge." [1] We said something like that in our first Pride editorial: the statement holds true. [2]
We are still here in the Washington, D.C. area, on the eve of another Capital Pride, and continue to consider Pride from an American perspective. After all, the search for ways to perfect our liberties, and dissatisfaction when we fail, animates much of our American history.

Washington, DC, USA. Holding true to the true meaning of Memorial Day is painfully easy for some and easily difficult for many others. Our nation most usually divides over our wars, slowly unifies in our respect for the dead, then far too often merely forgets until current events jar us away from our barbeques. It doesn’t matter whether you agree with any particular war or not. Every one of us should respect the sacrifice made by our military men and women who die in service.
Words often fail those who stood aside from the actual horrors of combat as they stop to ponder the sacrifices of individual combatants known and unknown.
By many accounts, liberated slaves and white abolitionists first observed what

Springfield, VA, USA. We at TS-Si are pleased to congratulate a new publication, Cases Journal, for its entry into the family of serious scientific and medical publications.
Case study research represents an important opportunity for HBS inquiry, with benefits that extend to the entire population. Theoretical propositions that can be tested and confirmed, or found to be wrong based on the actual data instead of supposition.
However, there has been little meaningful investigation into HBS, with efforts largely confined to particularly undisciplined versions of social science research. The full array of scientific tools lay unappreciated and unused, with scant attention and funding for hard data collecti

Metro DC community and Mautner host memorials
Washington, DC, USA. Cheryl Ann Spector delivered far more than she ever promised. Ms. Spector worked ceaselessly to secure equal rights, to the great benefit of anyone who values a just and civil society.
While her work had immediate benefit to our neighbors who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual, and transgendered, she was loved for her personal qualities and over a generation of dedicated community service.
We at TS-Si were privileged to know and work with Cheryl, experiencing her special charm and resolve at first hand. The world lost a great friend when she died on the morning of 4 September 2007 after a protracted battle with Acute Myelogenous Le
