Zucker the Kook

Ahh yesssss!

Kenny Boy! Ask Diane what it's like listening to that idiot talk. Her and I as a part of the group connected to the HBS info website (http://harrybenjaminsyndrome.org/), went to that TG lovefest in Chicago last September, known as the WPATH Symposium, to be present when a paper the HBS website volunteers had written was presented. We were interested in seeing Kenttenis' talk about treating young people with HBS. What did we find out to our chagrin, Zucker was a part of the talk!

He "talked" about how individuals that had been in the Dutch (Kettenis') program had fared post-adolescence (in their 20s). Not only was Zucker a boring speaker, but he WOULD NOT QUIT mentioning how many of the 20-somethings in the Dutch program (who had transitioned in their teens & younger), were homosexual in their sex orientation. Cmon! It was only incidental to the effectiveness of the Dutch program, in treating individuals with HBS. Once was enough- move on! The guy was (and is) obsessed with homosexuality.

As for my parents being defective in their sexuality - I rather doubt that. My dad was always a butch individual. My mom certain wasn't butch. In my teens, they would get downright nasty towards me, if they found out my little "problem" had not gone away. Reparative beahvior has been tried on individuals with HBS for decades. It has always failed.

Hugs,

My answer: NO!

Although I can see reparative treatment possibly working for those who are mature and request it I think to apply that treatment to an immature child is senseless. Is it not true that many of us were actually punished for expressing our need to be the opposite sex? Would not an attempt to convince an HBS born child that he/she needed to be 'repaired' any different? This reparative 'solution' I firmly believe would drive a child who is really HBS born to just give up since the only beneficial options available such as those now being addressed by Dr Spack in Boston and Kettenis in the Netherlands would be closed to them if Zucker had his way.

I was ignorant of what might have been available to me when a child in finding a solution but I cannot imagine how further hurt and desperate I might have been if taken to see someone like Zucker or his ilk. I would probably have jumped off the Brooklyn Bridge rather than endure that additional pain.>:(
