I am so glad for you that a solution came your way.

I would agree that osteorthritis is not exclusively as disease of age. However, it is predominantly one that strikes older people, especially women.

However, health statistics show that the lower bound for age is dropping and reports of teenagers are not uncommon. The whole matter is complicated by obesity, which may be a major contributing factor.

Let's hope we can find a cure.

First of all I totally disagree that osteoarthritis of the knee being a disease of age. I was only in my 30s when I first noticed it and started feeling the pain and I was only in my 40s and nearly crippled when I had both knee replacements done. Hearing that this disease mainly effected the elderly, deterred me from seeking helping that could have prevented further damage and pain to my knees. I had my first surgery in 2006 and it was not good, very painful, slow recovery and 6 months I had developed limp that my doctor assured me was all in my head. Finally 8 months after the first surgery my other knee when totally bad but I put surgery off for nearly another year and a half thinking that I would have to go through the same hell that I did with the first surgery but low and behold, after the second surgery I felt very little pain, could walk very well with my walker and could walk without my walker around the time of my discharge from the hospital. That was just a month and a half ago and I feel and walk great! I am painless, moble and feel strong and capable again! There is nothing like it and I recommend this surgery to anyone who needs it. ;D - Tracy Rogers

ConforMIS is a vendor of commercial products. They were the first to receive CE Mark Certification For Minimally Invasive Patient-Specific Implants. The certification (from Agile Test) is designed for equipment ready to be introduced into the European Union Market.

The article is about Patient-Specific Implants, a subject of vital importance to women. The person who left the comment did so from a domain that specializes in search marketing services.

This post comes close to being an advertisement. The editors have decided to let it through on the basis of relevance and product scarcity. However, we are alert to any gratuitous advertising and will keep readers advised if there are any new developments. - Sharon S. Gaughan

Knee Replacements

I agree, women shouldn't wait so long. I think that it also has a lot to do with awareness. I have to admit that I was not fully aware of all the consequences and symptoms of knee osteoarthritis. Lately, I've become more aware of it through blogs and websites like Conformis (www. conformis.com). They are very helpful and have a lot of useful information. They get you implants to fit the bone as opposed to cutting the bone to fit the implant. I'd definitely recommend checking out the website. And as said before, women -- don't wait to get your knee replacements if you need them! - Marela
